President's Report

Hi all, wow what a comp we put together to kick off the 2021 year. We had a great crowd at the club with over 70 anglers weighing in fish, great to see a large percentage of them were children as well. It is great to see the grandparents getting out there and enjoying themselves, many of them original members of the club some 30 years ago, like Owie Henderson.

A great big thank you must go out to our awesome sponsors, SportsWorld, Begovich Builders, Terry and Carol Holmes, Matamata Butchery, and of course our new sponsor Top Cru.

Since the prize giving it has come to our attention that there was in fact another marlin caught over that weekend, Zara Clifton caught her first ever, a beautiful fish of some 100kg. Zara chose to tag and release it. So, from all of us a great big congratulations to you and partner/come deckhand, Logan Craw, well done team.

Next, I just need to drop in a friendly reminder of fish size, please make sure all your fish meet fisheries size limits, and in the case of snapper our club rules require that they go to at least 400gms.

Next comp is known as the “Big Fish” comp. It has been for years and continues to be one of the best of the season. Sponsored very kindly by Matamata Challenge, Matamata Veterinary Services, Plumbco, King Electrical, Matamata Marine, and of course for extra junior prizes Waharoa Transport Ltd. Don’t forget you can fish the full day Friday for game fish only, this will be an excellent comp so don’t miss it, see you all there ah.

Happy Fishing, Bungey
