January Newsletter 2022

President's Report

Hi,

I hope you’re enjoying summer and getting out on the water.

Can we dare hope that 2022 is a better year than the previous one, let’s be optimistic ah.

Our last comp pre-Christmas went off very well, please read your sponsors list to see all that supported us. I’m sure you will all agree that we are very fortunate to get their backing, please support them in return where you can.

Coming up next is our February comp and a very exciting time of the year to hold a competition. Yes it is midsummer and the big fish are in our waters!!  Marlin, yellow fin tuna, mahi mahi etc.

The comp falls on a long weekend so the weigh in is on Monday the 7th which means plenty of opportunity to get out and get your next big fish. Also, as we did last year, you can fish for game fish on the Friday as well as the other three days. For the normal club species such as snapper, kingfish etc you start fishing at 5pm Friday evening.

Now as far as our sponsors go, it is very exciting. We have Matamata Sportsworld, Begovich Builders, Top Cru, Stihl Shop and Matamata Butchery. We have no beast this year from the Holmes family but I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their previous support, they have been amazing. Stepping up though are Graham and Debbie at Matamata Butchery, they are supplying a meat pack worth $500.00 for you to win. Also on board is Brett and Shelley from the Stihl Shop, get this, a $700.00 barbeque as a prize and a $500.00 smoker as a lucky member draw, how fantastic. Make sure you get along to join the fun. Brett and his team are going to have a cooking demo going on so that will be awesome too.

A great big congratulations to Zara Clifton as she recently landed a magnificent blue marlin up north, well done and well done to your trusted guide Logan. Also, a big yeehaw to Kane Fort who landed his first ever marlin on board Jason Craws boat, well done team!!

On a housekeeping note, the government rules around our club gatherings now means vaccination is part of their requirements, to anyone that this affects, unfortunately our hands are tied.

See you all in Feb. Happy Fishing,

Bungey!
