President's Report
Hi and welcome to 2023,
February competition of course saw the kickoff of our new year for the fishing club. Being a long weekend there was plenty of opportunity for members to get out on the water, and that’s just what they did. Congratulations to all the winners. It was also great to see that a magical fish like a marlin was caught, tagged, and released to carry on its journey.
Well done to Zara Clifton, and of course her partner and skipper Logan Craw, they obviously make a great team with that being their fourth marlin for the season. It was also great to see names like Phil Gordon pop up onto the prize board with him taking out the big snapper three bag after a venture out onto the west coast.
A great big thank you must go out to our sponsors of course. The past 12 months have not been easy for businesses, nor will the next 12 months, please make an effort to show your support to those who support us.
For February it was Matamata Sportsworld, Begovich Builders, Matamata Butchery, Top Cru and of course the local Stihl Shop, awesome guys, thank you. A big thank you also to those who each and every month donate fish to the cooking table.
We really do appreciate it, as do all members. The team do a great job of preparing, cooking and handing around the fish for all to enjoy.
Our next competition is “The Big Fish competition” and we look forward to it every season with the support of our fabulous long time sponsors of Matamata Marine, King Electrical, Challenge Matamata, Matamata Vet Services - Farm, Plumbco, and this year also Bryan and his team at Top Cru have come on board. This will be a very good comp, get out there. And please get the kids involved with a special section for them, once again sponsored by Waharoa Transport. Don’t forget Friday is a day for game fishing as well so sharpen those hooks and polish those lures.
