President's Report

Hi all, hope everything is good in your world, let’s hope you have had a chance to do a bit of autumn fishing.

It’s a great time of the year and there is plenty on offer from trout to marlin, and big snapper to kingi, the opportunities are endless. At the club we have just had the Big Fish Competition. For those who came along I’m sure you would have had a good time. While numbers were not high the crowd that was there were very enthusiastic, and an excellent number of kids turned up with smiles from ear to ear.

The Big Fish Comp is keenly looked forward to every year and a special thank you must go out to our long time sponsors of Challenge, Matamata Vets Farming, Plumbco, King Electrical, Matamata Marine, Top Cru and of course supporting the kids section is Waharoa Transport. Thank you so much to them all on your behalf. Congratulations to all the winners, also a big shout out to Hayden Begovich and Greg Stitchbury who tagged and released a marlin over that weekend.

Our next competition on the 1st and 2nd of April, sponsored by LJ Hooker, Matamata Auto Services and Electrical and of course the kids section by Waharoa Transport, should be a real beauty. April is an exceptional time of the year for all aspects of fishing, there is even a chance of a marlin being caught. I know it is a very good time to target big snapper so I’m predicting there could be a 20 plus hit the scales. Let’s make a real effort to get those kids out and make the weigh in a special family occasion.

Just a friendly reminder to all those who go trout fishing, on the odd occasion the weigh master may ask you to produce your license, I know you will all be above board but it’s something we must do from time to time.

If you haven’t heard, a great big wow must go out to Logan Craw, the big fella went out and landed a 200kg plus Broadbill Sword fish, he tagged and released it and the whole job was done solo. What a great effort. See you all in April.

Happy Fishing,

Bungey
