March Newsletter 2024

President's Report

Hello everyone,

Welcome to our March newsletter.

We had our Big Fish Competition on the 8th–10th of March. While numbers were not high it was great to see some new members and their families attending the weigh in evening. The Big Fish Competition is a long running competition for the Club. A big thank you must go out to our long time sponsors of this Competition - Matamata Marine, Challenge Matamata, Farm Veterinary Matamata, Plumbco and King Electrical. And of course the kids section is kindly sponsored by Waharoa Transport. Thank you so much for your ongoing sponsorship for which the Club and members greatly appreciate.

The Big Fish Competition this year was won by Isaak Crosland with a 13kg Kingfish. He also ran second with another 12kg Kingfish taking home $1,100 in prize money! Well done Isaak, a great effort! Third place went to new Committee member Natalie Clothier with a nice Kingfish weighing 9.7kg. Sadly there was no marlin caught, hopefully next year!

Our next Competition will be Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th April. Any members with any suggestions on guest speakers or demonstrations, or anything regarding boating or fishing, please come forward with your ideas.

We are thinking of having a Club night in June when we have no Competition. The July Competition is once again a Hunting and Fishing competition to be held on the 6th and 7th of July. Keep your eyes peeled for further information to come on this great event!

Happy fishing,

 Phil
