December Newsletter 2025

President's Report

Hello team,

Welcome to our December newsletter.

Firstly, I would like to acknowledge Keith & Elaine Melville for their dedication and hard work that they have put into our Newsletters for the past 10 years. This will be the final newsletter they do for us, and we are so grateful for the time and efforts they have put into producing these each month for us. So a massive thank you to them.

We are making plans for what’s next with Club Newsletters so keep your eyes peeled for that.

A big thank you must go to our committee for their work put into the November Competition. It was a huge success. Also, to our many sponsors we had on board for theNovember competition. It is greatly appreciated, and it helps towards the success of our competitions. The turnout at our Club was fantastic, and it was great to see new members also enjoying the evening, Also many thanks to John Price who auctioned some great prizes donated by Mower and Chainsaw’s new owners Ryan & Krishelle Payze, the trailer load of Firewood by the Polley family, Fishing Trips on Reel Deal and Artemis kindly sponsored by myself and Glen Clothier respectively. And of course the overnighter on Savana City kindly donated by the Swap Family. Congratulations to the winners of those auctions.

Over to the fishing side, very large numbers of fish came over the weigh station, including two fish over the magical 20 pound! These were caught by Sue Dixon with a fish weighing 8.270kg and Joel Hobart with another fish at 8.080kg. Kids Catch of the Month went to Miya Henderson with a nice snapper weighing 5.435kg.

Our incentive for the month was the adults $1,000 prize for the Average Weighed Fish. With an average weight of 2.11kg this was shared by two fishos, Jacki Andrew and Ryan van Waveren. Unfortunately, Ryan was not at the Club so the $1,000 winner was Jacki Andrew. The kids Average Weight prize went to Holly Henderson winning $100.

Our December competition is always popular leading into Christmas. Our sponsors for December are J Swap Contractors, Comag Ltd, Golden Flow Honey, Indulgence Beauty & Spa and Grant & Sue Dixon. Your sponsorship is always greatly appreciated by our Club.

We have registered the Fishing Club for the Christmas Parade so please get your thinking caps on for any ideas. And if you want to be included in the float please let us know.

Also please remember to bring a gold coin or tinned food to our December competition to donate to the Matamata Food Bank. And yes Santa will be there again this year they tell me! How he arrives is still a mystery!

Let’s hope the weather plays its part for the Parade and our competition.

Kind regards,

Phil
