March Newsletter 2019

President's Report

Hi all,

let me firstly apologise for not being at the March big fish competition. I can’t remember when I last missed one as I enjoy them so much, and no doubt you all do too. I understand it was a great competition and thanks to our awesome committee everything went off well. March of course has an excellent line up of sponsors, Matamata Challenge, Matamata Vets, Plumbco, King Electrical, Matamata Marine and of course for the kids for the first of two months in a row, Waharoa Transport. I don’t want to single anyone out but a special thank you to Ken and Sharon who put up an amazing life jacket as an extra prize. Many thanks to you all, and please people, where you can, support our sponsors.

Our next competition is on the 6th and 7th of April and with excellent sponsors: LJ Hooker Matamata; Matamata Auto Services; and of course for all the kids, Waharoa Transport, it will be a beauty. April is an excellent time of the year to fish so make an effort to get out there and take the kids, or grandkids, along with your ah. There have been some awesome catches by club members recently, with Mitch putting number 5 Marlin for this season of Leander, tagged and released again, and the mother of all marlins, a 285kg blue landed by the Dalton Team of Matt and Charlene.

On a very sad note we lost an amazing young fisho the other day, our thoughts are with the Crabb Family, who lost young Billy at just thirteen years of age. Over the years the Crabb family have been involved in sponsoring kids’ competitions etc and Billy was an awesome kid that loved the sea.

As far as the alterations to the club rooms go, I know the progress is slow but rest assured things are moving along. Last but not least I had to farewell my Mum this weekend. She was a keen fisho and an awesome mother in law, Grandma and Great Grandma.

Happy Fishing, Bungey
