April Newsletter 2021

President's Report

Hi all, hope you are enjoying some good fishing at the moment. Autumn is a lovely time of the year and an excellent time to target big snapper. Our April comp was a very good one with some nice fish weighed in, great to see so many of the anglers being children.

As a president it is so pleasing to see these young ones coming through, makes the future of the club look to be in good hands. As we all know our senior members of the club are not going to be here forever, that really hit home the other day with the tragic loss of Harry Fort, a past president and very long-time member of the club. Harry will be sadly missed, he was a real character at the club, a top man, and a great supporter, he will not be forgotten.

A very special thanks to our sponsors for April: LJ Hooker Matamata, Matamata Auto Services and Electrical, and of course Waharoa Transport for the kids’ competition.

Coming events for our May comp I would like to welcome a new sponsor to the group, Hugh Vercoe Insurance Brokers. They have become a very good supporter of the club, great to see, they will join Fairview Motors, Paul Jones Contracting, and of course Laurent Contractors.

This year’s prize giving is celebrating 30 years of the club. We are wanting to make a very special night of it so put aside the 14th of August. If you know past members, please let us know as well. The venue will be at Swaps Pepper Street Café and believe me it is fabulous. The committee still have to finalise a few things but at this stage the night will be of little or no cost to all past and present members, except for what you drink, that is on you.

We are letting you know early so you can mark on your calendar, and we will have limited ticket numbers. Prize winners will be contacted prior to this date, more information will be put into newsletters as committee finalise things.

Happy fishing, Bungey
