President's Report

Hi,
Yes, here we go we are off on another awesome season of our wonderful sport they
call fishing. I can’t think of a better way to enjoy it than being a member of the Matamata Fishing Club. If you have been a member for years you will already know that. So, if you know of anybody thinking of joining up certainly encourage them to do so.

The weather wasn’t great for our first competition on the 1st & 2nd of September, however we still had a good crowd along to prize giving, and thanks to our very good sponsors, Mitre 10, and SignTint, the prizes up for a grabs, were amazing.

As this is the start of a new season I just wanted to clarify the fact that we
have two sections in the club, Senior and Junior. Now if a Junior weighs in a fish
heavier than a senior they win the Junior section, not the top overall, as you
can imagine it doesn’t happen very often but when it does they are two totally
different sections. Since I last talked to you we have had our prize giving, a great night, and our AGM, another good night. You would have worked out by now that I’m back as president, please let me say a big thank you for your confidence in me, I am passionate about the club and will do my best to keep things humming along. I have always said that any president is only as good as the team behind him and I have a very good one. I would like to say a great big thank you to three of our team who stood down, Will, Matt, and Lippy, they have all been awesome committee people. I would also like to take this opportunity to say welcome to 4 new ones joining the team Greg and Eileen Ward, Brad Hutton, who has been a great help on the knife in the past twelve months, and Robbie Reid, an excellent Landbase fisho, also helping out doing a great job on the camera is Brad’s daughter Georgia.

Coming up is our October competition, this is always a beauty, we are well into spring
fishing by then and we have awesome sponsors, they are of course Daltons, Allenco Marine, Matamata Directional Drilling and Chooky’s Auto. The comp is on the 6th and 7th of October so see you all there.

Club night, yes, it’s been a while since we have had one of these and they have
always been a good night. Phil Stevens has organized a very good one, on the
Wed night at 6.30 on the 26th of September, we are going to have a guest
speaker at the club, Josh Western. Now Josh is an absolute wiz kid on depth sounders/ fish finders. It would be fair to say that most people only get a fraction out of their machines than they are actually capable of, so here’s your chance to come along and be amazed at what Josh can show you. Also, if you arrange it that night, the following week he will take you out on the water in your boat and run you through the use of your own fish finder. Great idea Phil, although I think Chooky helped him think of it, make sure you come along and take this opportunity to learn.

Denchy has also mentioned that quite a few people are asking him for tips on soft
baiting, he said he will be there on the night, so you can quiz him while you are there.

Happy Fishing
