President's Report

Hi, I hope everything is good in your neck of the woods, perhaps you have even been out on the water, or up a quiet stream somewhere.

At our last competition the crowd was not huge, but they more than made up for it with enthusiasm, and some very nice fish were weighed in. The BIG FISH COMP is really looked forward to every year, and with $750.00 cash up for the heaviest qualifying fish there are plenty out on the water competing for it. This year I am really pleased to say a marlin was caught by George Watson on Salty Cru, skippered by Bryan Shepherd, he chose to tag and release it, and in doing so gained the weight of 100kg therefore taking out the prize, well done. Sylvia Ward battled for 45 mins to land a very nice king fish taking out second spot, well done to all prize winners, including the kids.

A special thanks to our awesome sponsors: Challenge Matamata, Matamata Vets, Plumbco, King Electrical, Matamata Marine and Waharoa Transport.

Our next competition is on the 2nd and 3rd of April, our much-appreciated sponsors are LJ Hooker, Matamata Auto Services and Electrical and of course get those kids out there as Waharoa Transport are on board again.

Something to look forward to for our July competition, well known supporter of the club Denchy has been involved with hunting comps for many years. This July he is working with committee, and along with normal competition we are going to have a game section. This should be an excellent event with prizes for deer, pigs, rabbits, possums, etc. Mark it on your calendar now, more details in the next newsletter or two.

 Cheers Bungey
